Welcome to my blog! Today I'm going to share with you some interesting facts about the history of Williams Park, a charming neighborhood in Smyrna, GA. Williams Park is the oldest neighborhood in Smyrna, and it has a rich and diverse heritage that reflects the growth and development of the city. Here are some of the highlights of Williams Park's history:

- Williams Park was established in 1874 by John F. Williams, a prominent businessman and politician who owned a large tract of land in the area. He donated part of his land for a public park, which became the center of the neighborhood and gave it its name.

- Williams Park was home to many influential figures in Smyrna's history, such as Mazie Whitfield Nelson, a local historian and author who wrote Past, Present, Future, an autobiography and history of Smyrna; Pete Wood, a journalist and novelist who wrote The Paper Boy, a memoir of his childhood in Smyrna; and Mary Phagen's aunt and uncle, who lived in Williams Park when Mary was murdered in 1913, a case that sparked national outrage and controversy.

- Williams Park has the greatest concentration of surviving older buildings in all of Smyrna, with twenty houses built before the First World War still standing as of 2012. They showcase a variety of architectural styles, such as Victorian, Craftsman, and Ranch. Some of the historic homes have been featured in articles by Casey Clavin and Victor Koch, who researched and documented the history of the neighborhood for a lecture series and a website.

- Williams Park is a vibrant and active community that hosts several events throughout the year, such as social gatherings, charity drives, and neighborhood clean-ups. The neighborhood association, Williams Park Neighbors, promotes community among neighbors through social interaction and civic engagement.
